Canyon Creek Provides Cabinetry For Homeless Transitional Housing
Monroe, WA - August 2008
Canyon Creek Cabinet Company was recently recognized for its cabinetry contribution to the Kensington Square/Housing at the Crossroads (HAC) project in Bellevue, WA. HAC joined with the Master Builders Care Foundation and Shea Homes of Redmond, WA to solicit donations from the home-building industry and Shea Homes coordinated the construction of the new facility.
The new transitional housing project features two and three-bedroom units that can fit families of up to seven people. Each two-story unit is furnished with new appliances and a laundry room, and families can use them for up to two years, with the goal to achieve self-sufficiency by providing stable, affordable housing and support services.
Canyon Creek’s Legend door style in beech with a natural finish was chosen for the six units.
According to Greg Robertson, board president of the HAC all-volunteer non-profit group: “We allow people to take up to two years to get back on their feet following job loss, illness or other ‘hiccups in life’ that make them homeless. We provide shelter to them while giving them the chance to become productive again.”
Canyon Creek Cabinet Company, located in Monroe, Washington, is a leading manufacturer of affordable custom frameless and framed style cabinetry for every room in the home. Earning its ISO 9001:2000 quality assurance certification in 2003, Canyon Creek has created one of the most extensive lines of custom cabinetry available.
Canyon Creek has been a recognized leader in the kitchen and bath industry since 1981 and has won many industry awards for its cabinetry and environmental practices. Canyon Creek markets its cabinetry to designers, builders and a select network of dealers and has sales offices and representatives throughout its distribution area.

Canyon Creek Now Has Four-Week Lead Times For Frameless Product
Monroe, WA - August 2008
Canyon Creek Cabinet Company has reduced lead times for the majority of its frameless product to four weeks. (Some of the aluminum, stainless steel and laminate products will be at a five-week lead-time.)
Millennia frameless cabinetry features sophisticated European styling with American durability and craftsmanship. For designers, frameless construction provides continuous symmetry of door and drawer lines outside with easy access to storage space inside.
Earlier this year, Canyon Creek expanded its frameless line to include contemporary foil, wood and metal doors, innovative hardware and exciting new storage and structural options.
According to Doug Chadwick, vice president of sales and marketing for Canyon Creek, “This is really important in an industry where the average lead-time for custom frameless product is six to ten weeks. Canyon Creek has traditionally provided consistent lead times that our dealers can rely upon, and reducing our lead-time by a full week will give them a further competitive edge.”
Canyon Creek Hosts By-Product Synergy Meeting
Monroe, WA - August 2008
Canyon Creek Cabinet Company recently hosted the monthly group meeting of By-Products Synergy Northwest (NW). Headed by the national non-profit organization Network for Innovation and Sustainability, this group helps Washington companies collaborate to reduce the environmental impact of their waste, or by-product, into an industrial input for another company. These Northwest companies work together to identify and implement synergies between companies from a diverse range of business sectors. What makes the effort attractive to companies is that once the synergy is implemented, it often results in an impressive return on a participating company’s investment.
During the meeting, Canyon Creek focused on ways in which they could recycle and reuse their sawdust and wood chips.
Prior to the meeting, Canyon Creek sent wood waste samples to Washington State University (WSU) to have them produce pellets in their onsite pellet mill, and those pellet samples were brought to the meeting. Those samples looked promising, and WSU will perform further testing to determine if they fit within the regulatory parameters to be used as heating fuel in residential and industrial applications, and for bedding material in local dairy farms.
Leader Industries, an outdoor furniture manufacturer, outputs a plastic waste stream that may be mixed with wood waste to produce a substrate material that can then be used in the building industry. WSU is also going to provide the additional testing required for this potential new product.
Another local company, Gray's Harbor Paper, is pursuing the use of Canyon Creek’s wood waste for their co-generation plant to produce energy fuel to run their operation. They have semi-trucks of paper that are shipped to the Seattle area twice a week and the group discussed the possibility of having their trucks pickup Canyon Creek’s wood waste on the way back to their facility.
According to John Earl, environmental manager for Canyon Creek: “I think Canyon Creek is going to benefit from this synergy group and help other companies find productive uses for their waste products. We encouraged WSU to become involved and plan for more companies to join the program. This group is just one of the many ways in which we as a company are looking to manage our resources and reduce our waste stream.
