As the seasons change, it’s always a good idea to revisit your closet, get organized, and swap out cold weather clothes for summer dresses and blouses. It might even be time to go big and consider a complete remodel as the first step in creating the organized closet of your dreams. So whether you are starting with a remodel, or just wanting to spring clean and organize, here are a few tips for having the most organized closet ever.
1. Take inventory
Set some time aside on a Saturday, turn on your most motivational playlist, and really take some time to get reacquainted with your closet. If you haven’t worn it in a year, donate it. If it’s too big or too small, donate it. This will free up space for the things you actually wear. Once this is done, make a list of things you need for summer…basics that are maybe worn out or faded from last year. Then group what’s left by category…dresses, skirts, blouses, etc. Then within each category, organize by frequency of use and color.
2. Slim down those hangers
This seems like a really simple step, but you’ll be amazed at how much room you will save. Strong enough to hold all types of clothes, slimmer hangers will maximize your space and keep your closet looking uniform and organized.
3. Use drawers wisely
If your closet has drawers (or you are considering drawers in your remodel), make sure they have a purpose. Consider organizing your drawers by activity: workout gear, work items, weekend wear, etc. Drawer dividers are also a great way to organize socks, undergarments, belts, etc.
4. Look up
It’s easy to make the most of your top shelf space in your closet in a way that is organized and fashionable. Use baskets or label canvas storage boxes to neatly store items you rarely use.
