If you’re looking for interior design inspiration, there’s one place nearly everyone begins their search: Pinterest. We guess that’s why Pinterest’s home segment grew by 75 percent! This year, they finally revealed the best of 2018 home decorating trends based on user behavior. We did the research and read the numbers for you…here are four of the biggest takeaways.
It’s all about the red tones
Last year, it was all about the green shades. But according to Pinterest, pins with red tones are up 217 percent. We’re not surprised considering Benjamin Moore released Caliente as its 2018 Color of the Year. This shade of red is warm with earth undertones making it the perfect shade for interior design. Look for ways to incorporate this bold color in areas such as sofa cushions, in window treatments like curtains or wall art.
Make a statement with well, statement ceilings
Design trends seem to be getting bolder with brightly-colored hues and statement ceilings. We haven’t always paid a whole lot of attention to the ceiling, but obviously things are changing! Use wallpaper, paints and just texture in general to make your ceiling or “fifth wall” pop.
Even though terrazzo flooring comes directly from the 1970s, pins for this material are up a whopping 316 percent. Nowadays, the material can be made with anything from glass, marble, quartz and other stone making it versatile for other spaces like a table, backsplash, countertop, or staircase. Plus, with the rise in mid-century design, we’ll definitely be seeing this material more often.
Honestly, we’re not sure how this is just now popping up as a trend! Doesn’t everyone want a spa-like bathroom? Tropical interiors are trending, so use it as inspiration to create your sanctuary spa. Combine patterned plants, vacation-inspired furniture such as rattan and a clean design to create that resort-like feel in your own bathroom.
