Why Neil Patrick Harris’ Houzz Surprise Renovation for His Brother is Everything

Houzz-Neil-Patrick-Harris

On the latest episode of Houzz’s Surprise Renovation, Neil Patrick Harris works with Houzz to renovate his brother’s den and backyard. Through the process, he choose a designer and landscaper from the Houzz website and collaborated with them to complete his brother’s home in a way that was both meaningful and beautiful. Here are three reasons why this episode is everything in our book.

1. Brotherly love

It was clear right from the start that Neil wanted to do something really unique for his brother. By taking the two main spaces that had yet to be remodeled in his brother’s home…the den and backyard…Neil was careful to bring in all his brother’s interests from nature, to books, to functional art. Add in Neil’s brother’s reaction to the gesture at the end you realize just watching these two brothers was so heartwarming, you almost forgot about how cool the designs were.

2. The Houzz Design Tools

The Houzz website makes it easy to create the space of your dreams through their lookbook tools, ability to shop products right on the website, inspirational photos with product matches so you can purchase right there, and “view in my room” technology. This made it easy for communication and decision-making between Neil and the professionals he was working with.

3. Design elements

The blue crushed glass tile from Spain on the fireplace and the pairtian wall along with the Eames chair inside the den was just the beginning. Outside, the firepit, sitting area, and outdoor eating area (with a metal pergola) created a one-of-a-kind desert oasis…complete with a swing!
