Helpful Website Tools – Wood Species Range Boards

Choosing a wood species and finish is an important step in the design process, and www.CanyonCreek.com is a great tool to help narrow down choices before ordering physical samples. The photos and notes featured on the site provide information about the natural characteristics of the different species offered. Let’s take a closer look.
From the Products page, click on Wood Species & Materials:

Next, click Wood:

On the Wood Species page, you’ll see a beautiful example of Black Walnut, followed by a selection menu for Wood Species and related Finishes:

Once you make your selections, in this case Alder and Natural, the image at the top of the page changes to the combination selected. This “range board” highlights the grain pattern and color variations you might expect with this species. Each stave, or section, represents how a door stile or rail might look and in any combination.

Below the photo, you’ll find a brief listing of the natural characteristics common to that wood, and which cabinet lines offer that species. Select the “magnifying glass” at the corner of the image to enlarge it for better viewing. Also, remember that all computer or phone/tablet screens are different, so make sure your final selection is based on an actual sample from the factory.
Notice too, the “FAVORITE” option to the lower right of the photo. We’ll cover that feature in a future post!
