Transform Your Front Porch for Fall

Front Porch for Fall

Maybe you’ve lived in your home for 20 years and you really need to give that front porch a makeover. Or, maybe you just moved into a newly constructed home that has all the bells and whistles but is a little lacking in character. This is the perfect time to tackle a front porch transformation just in time for fall. Here are a few ways to convert your porch from outdated or boring to swoon-worthy, with curb appeal worthy of Fixer Upper.

Clean start

Last spring we talked about getting your porch spring ready – so revisit some of those same tips to begin your porch transformation with a fresh canvas. Start by sweeping, pressure washing and cleaning any furniture, pots and porch area.

Make a statement with your front door

The front door is key to porch appeal. If yours is discolored, peeling or just not cutting it for you, think about a change. Painting your front door is a fairly simple option. Pick a color that complements your overall home style, and if you want to be bold, go for a bright hue! Alternatively, if things feel too dark, go a few shades lighter. You can also replace your front door altogether, especially if you want to have a higher-end material, or if you want to make a big change like having glass in the door to let more light into your home.

Add seating

If you have the space, adding seating to your front porch makes it instantly inviting. Classic rocking chairs are charming and nostalgic – a perfect choice if you want that welcoming, homey feeling.

An antique bench or chair can add a nice touch for a more rustic or farmhouse style. Looking to do something more modern? You can find plenty of outdoor seating with clean lines. A mini bistro table and chairs can also fit in to a number of different aesthetics.

Complete the look with décor

To make your porch something that you really love, get creative with the décor and accessories. Plants and flowers are a wonderful way to liven up a front porch area. Just remember to water them and pick something appropriate for your climate. Try shopping antique stores for vintage or historical pieces you won’t find anywhere else…just remember to make sure the things you pick can hold up to the elements outside, and that they fit the size and style of your porch. And don’t forget to add the finishing touch: a perfect “welcome” mat!
