Transitioning your kitchen from traditional to modern can seem overwhelming at first. The sheer simplicity of a modern kitchen can seem impossible to achieve if you aren't starting from scratch, but you can do it – we promise! It merely starts with cleaning house.
Clear your countertops
A modern kitchen is inherently minimalist. Clean lines, few intricacies and lots of bare space are all crucial components that pull the look together, and keeping clutter at bay is one of the best ways to get them. Get rid of stuff you don't use or need in your kitchen, and give the remaining items a home somewhere in your modern cabinets.
Keep it simple
Decorating a modern kitchen is a delicate balance – you want to keep the space visually interesting, but you don't want to overdo it. That being said, it's best to choose fewer items that will speak a little more loudly on their own. A brightly colored geometric piece in the center of your kitchen island, for example, might be all you need to bring the space to life. The bonus, of course, is that the fewer items you have mounted on your walls and sitting on your countertops, the less time you'll spend maintaining the place.
Once you've paired down your kitchen tools, appliances and decor, you can begin bringing in the big structural components, like modern cabinets, kitchen tables and countertops.
