Kitchen, bathroom design trends include eye-catching patterns, soothing grays

Consider updating your bathroom or kitchen with trends that easily work for either space.

Start off the new year experimenting with fun design trends that work for both bathroom and kitchen remodels. These popular renovations don’t always require lots of time or money for you to enjoy the look of a new room!

Wallpaper and wall decals are officially back “in” – and they are a great way to spruce up the look of a room. This project can easily be done in a few days’ time, and will completely change your environment. One popular pattern is the same one that’s been spotted all over the runway: Chevron. If having a bold pattern on your walls is too much for you, consider incorporating the look in just towels or place mats instead.

Feature lighting is also a big trend because of its soft glow and almost heavenly effect. It will help you better see what you’re doing, but guests won’t be able to see the sometimes clunky light fixtures. One great use of feature lighting is to highlight your bathtub. The hidden lighting will make the tub appear to be almost floating. Feature lighting also makes for great mood lighting.

The use of shades of gray is also in style, according to the National Kitchen and Bath Association. The color isn’t overpowering, but it’s still distinguished and attractive. Gray has popped up everywhere from cabinet design to countertops and wall colors.
