Thinking of Remodeling? Define Your Personal Style First

If 2019 is the year you’ve decided to remodel your home, then be sure to spend some time defining your own personal style. A kitchen or bathroom remodel is a big investment in many ways, so having a clear-cut idea of your style will help ensure you end up with something you love. Not sure where to start defining your own style? Try these steps to get you headed in the right direction.

Try a quiz

Have fun while taking some steps towards figuring out what colors, styles and fabrics you really like. There are many options out there, but one of our favorite comes from Houzz. It asks about everything from decor style to lifestyle choices to give you the best possible results.

Create a Pinterest board

Learn from the best! The second most followed Pinterest board is from interior designer Maryann Rizzo. Her board “Everything” is full of ideas that will inspire you to create your own board. Once you do, analyze your board for colors and textures you are drawn to. Look at themes when it comes to furniture too…are the majority of your photos featuring clean lines, vintage materials, or traditional shapes? Also look at your artwork preferences. Landscapes, portraits, abstracts? Doing this will help you visualize your style.

Decide on a color palette

Don’t be afraid to push the design boundaries and go with trendy 2019 Colors of the Year. Pantone’s featured color is Living Coral…natural, energizing, yet soft and inviting. While Benjamin Moore sticks with calm and sophisticated Metropolitan AF-690 as their pick for 2019.

Understand your overall style

From modern to traditional…even transitional…understanding what type of interior design you are drawn to will help set the stage for all your remodel decisions.
