One of the primary benefits to using cabinetry instead of furniture or shelving is that cabinets are incredibly flexible and can maximize the space available. In this small house, carving out a home office was a necessity, but the room doubled as a space to host visiting friends and family. Utilizing a small space adjacent to the kitchen, a bench, shelves, closed storage, and strategically placed hooks can create the perfect mudroom or entryway. Want to hide even more clutter? Simply replace open shelves with a tall cabinet fitted with roll-out trays, or a pantry pull-out to bring items once lost to the back of the cabinet within easy reach.
The “Everything” Room
In a larger utility room or laundry room, cabinets can add functional zones with storage, display, and ample countertop workspace. Plus, we can all appreciate bringing calm and beauty to a typically chaotic space! This room brings an added level of convenience with the kennel area and dog-washing station for a pair of pugs.
The Family Hangout
Have an unfinished basement? Cabinets can help create the perfect entertaining pace for the entire family. Here, the kitchenette features refrigerator drawers and plenty of room for snacks. Aluminum frame doors with vertical lift hardware are combined with long shelving above to create a functional display and easy access to glassware and drinks in a contemporary bar. In the lounge, a wall-to-wall console built from full-height door cabinets can accommodate everything from board games, classic DVDs, and game controllers to tall or oddly shaped containers, and overflow storage. A room like this may become the most popular space in the house. Who says utility must look utilitarian?
The Perfect Hiding Place
